What is reiki?

Reiki is an 18th-century, Japanese technique that harnesses the power of life force energy to promote healing. There is anywhere from 1-100 trillion atoms in one grain of sand. These atoms are constantly moving and generating energy. This energy exists in everything we see around us: plants, objects, and even our cellphones.

Reiki helps you use this invisible energy, the energy around you, and inside of you to release limiting energy and achieve balance. Once your own life energy is clear, moving freely, and vibrating at a higher frequency, you experience an inner connection to your true self, your intuition, and a deeper spiritual awareness. And, you’ll feel a sense of calm and relief.

Specific hand positions are used on the body or slightly above the body. Hands are usually placed on or above the main energy centers (chakras), pathways (meridians), or Dontien/Tanden points to encourage a strong flow of energy or Ki. When Ki is weakened or blocked, it could lead to symptoms of physical and emotional imbalance.

Reiki is…

  • A non-invasive practice that calms your nervous system helping to relieve stress, fear, and pain.

  • A complementary approach to healing that can be practiced along with Western medicine.

  • A spiritual practice that reconnects you to the healing power, intuition, and peace within yourself.

  • Available to everyone. Anyone can learn to practice on themselves and others. Reiki also can be shared with animals, plants, and life situations.

  • Being used in hospitals, hospice, and therapy around the world.

  • Just as effective over a distance, as in person.

 Reiki is NOT…

  • Massage or reflexology. Hands are lightly placed on or above the body without manipulation, and you are fully clothed.

  • A religion. Reiki is non-denominational. Practitioners come from all faiths, beliefs, and religions. Reiki works with any religious path you have chosen for your life, and equally well if you do not follow any religious beliefs.

  • A magic cure. Though many ailments disappear after one Reiki treatment, it is more common to see improvements after multiple treatments. It is a gentle practice that is most effective in combination with other alternative and Western healing methods. Reiki often requires you to surrender to old beliefs and release past emotional wounds that may be blocking your energy or Ki and causing physical pain.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING MY REIKI TREATMENT?

Before your treatment, I will ask you why you are seeking treatment, how you are feeling currently, and how you’d like to feel in the future. I will also ask you to think of an intention for the session. An intention is who you want to be in the moment versus a goal, which is what you want to do in the future. Your intention can be kept to yourself or shared. This intention creates a spark of energy that releases out into the Universe to help manifest in reality.

During your treatment, I will place my hands on or above the energy centers of the body. My intuition will guide me to energetic areas of the body that may need attention. My goal is to raise the vibration in the energy field in and around your body to stimulate energy around any interference to gently allow it to release, so Ki can flow freely to support the organs and cells in your body. You will remain clothed.

The Reiki experience is different for everyone. In some cases, symptoms may increase for a short period as healing starts. This is known as a “healing crisis”. Some clients go into a meditative state where they see colors and images, or embark on an inner spiritual journey. Due to the fluctuations of Ki energy, some feel tingling, hot and cold flashes, throbbing or stomach growling.

Once dissonant energy is released, suppressed emotions may surface. This is a sign that healing has taken place. Rest assured, I provide a safe, sacred space for these situations. More commonly, a treatment is a deeply relaxing experience that balances and harmonizes the body and mind, and provides comfort

IS THERE ANY PROOF THAT REIKI WORKS?

According to the Association of Comprehensive Energy Psychology (ACEP), there are over 100 published research studies, articles, and analyses in peer-reviewed journals, 48 with randomized control trials, where 98% were positively affected by Reiki energy healing. Studies suggest that bioenergy (life force energy) exists and is produced by all living things. Research also suggests that bioenergy is connected to health, and that energy healing techniques affect the physical body.

Today, over 800 hospitals, including Mayo Clinic and Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, offer Reiki to patients for healing. A Reiki station was setup to treat firefighters and first responders at Ground Zero. And, professional sports teams employ Reiki practitioners to help with injury, post-op recovery, and overall performance.

can Reiki help me?

Reiki helps you feel better by balancing your nervous system and stimulating your body’s innate ability to self-heal. Feeling balanced may mean something different for each person during the treatment. If you are tired, you’ll feel refreshed. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, you’ll discover a sense of clarity and focus. When you are balanced, your heart rate and breathing slow down, which can reduce your pain. In addition to reducing symptoms, stress, and side effects from medications, Reiki boosts your confidence about regaining your health and wellbeing. This sense of hopefulness helps you incorporate other health and lifestyle changes.

Reiki can help all types of physical and emotional challenges including:

Chronic pain due to:

  • Physical injury

  • Emotional trauma

  • Stress/adrenal fatigue

  • Neuropathy (carpal tunnel, diabetic, and other nerve pain)

  • Epilepsy

  • Arthritis

  • Migraines/headaches

  • Sciatica

  • Autoimmune disease

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Insomnia

  • Pre- and post-surgical procedures

  • Cancer

  • Career changes

  • Life transitions

This isn’t a complete list because the power of Reiki energy healing is unlimited. I’ve experienced mind, body and spirit healing with Reiki, and continue to practice on myself everyday with transformational results. I’ve also witnessed amazing improvements in health and wellbeing with my clients. It is my mission to share Reiki with you, to show you that you have the power to heal yourself, and feel less stress, anxiety and pain. I help people just like you reconnect to your true self, gain clarity to guide you forward, and find relief.

DO I HAVE TO BELIEVE IN REIKI FOR IT TO WORK?.

No. You do not have to believe that Reiki works, for it to have an effect on you. Reiki energy healing is not a religion, but a pathway to spiritual connection. And, you don’t have to accept that you can heal using life force energy. You do have to be open to trying an alternative method, and releasing old beliefs or emotions that may be blocking your energy flow.

WHAT MAKES YOU DIFFERENT FROM OTHER REIKI PRACTITIONERS?

I understand what it’s like, feeling abandoned in the world of Western medicine, yearning for relief. I suffered from several stress-related health issues and injuries, in addition to the devastating loss of my job. Reiki has helped me reshape my thoughts, beliefs and find my life purpose. My physical pain is gone. And, I have a sense of peace, connection, clarity and well being that I’ve never experienced before. I’d like to share what I’ve learned along my journey with you.

Once I completed Reiki First Degree and noticed a shift in my emotional state and pain level, I knew I had to learn more about Reiki and the power of our invisible energy systems. I became certified in Energy Therapy, which encompasses a variety of alternative energy healing techniques, including Reiki and EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), or tapping. All of my clients, no matter how skeptical of the technique, have experienced a sense of calm and relief. And, I believe this relaxed state is the gateway to all healing.

There are a lot of variations of Reiki and energy healing practiced in the U.S. today. I’m trained in both Usui Shiki Ryoho, the traditional Western lineage brought to the West by Mrs. Hawayo Takata, and Usui Reiki Ryoho, a Japanese lineage started by Mikao Usui that stayed in secrecy in Japan until the 1980’s. I practice and teach a combination of traditional Western and Japanese Reiki energy healing. As a Reiki Master, my goal is to keep Reiki as authentic as possible, staying true to how it was practiced by its Founders.
